Former England Cricketer Michael Atherton heaped praises on Yashaswai Jaiswal and called him a ‘generational talent’. Jaiswal played a daddy hundred innings of 161 after being getting out on zero in the first innings. Jaiswal stood tall on a still lively Day 2 Perth wicket and forged a not out opening partnership with K L Rahul until day 3 laying a strong foundation on which Virat Kohli capatalized later on with his own century.
Speaking on the Sky Sports cricket Youtube channel, Atherton remarked “We saw Jaiswal when we there for the 5 match test series with very different conditions. He looked an unbelievable talent. But you (referring to Nasser’s appreciation of Jaiswal) are right, then to go to Australia, and that is the challenge for all young batters, particularly if you spent your formative years in the sub-continent on generally lower, slower pitches, then to go to Australia, top of the order, good pace attack, and not getting any runs in the first innings. So what an innings that was from him second time around. Yeah a generational talent.”
Didn’t see that coming in Perth : Michael Atherton
On the same program, Nasser Hussain pulled Atherton’s leg for his earlier statements that India are not going to have a chance in Australia to which Atherton replied “I didn’t see that coming in Perth. I have to say because normally, touring sides, well India obviously has done really well in Australia but normally touring sides, they are gonna struggle in Perth with that extra bounce, its not that WACA but Perth has a particular soil generally. And the scale of the defeat. Australia can’t be beaten that heavily and that badly at home for a long time. That was a real Shellacking.”
Will Yashaswi be dropped from the opening slot?
With Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill waiting to enter into the squad, the Indian think tank has a serious headache on how to fit Yashaswi Jaiswal in the batting order after the 22 year old left-hander displayed his talent with a huge knock against a formidable side.
