If reports are to be believed then the deadlock continues between BCCI and PCB regarding the organization of Champions Trophy. While the Hybrid Model was accepted by Pakistan Cricket Board for the Indian matches, the PCB has demanded certain conditions which seems to be getting difficult for the BCCI to accept.

While PCB took a softer stance for agreeing to Hybrid model with India for Champions Trophy, they have demanded the same Hybrid Model for Pakistan’s matches with India in coming two years for the ICC events, mainly for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.

As per latest reports from Pak media, BCCI had indicated agreement verbally to PCB for the Hybrid Model related to ICC events which will be hosted by India in the coming 3 years. However, the BCCI has refused to give written agreement to PCB for Floating Formula where India will host Pakistan in a neutral venue in the coming ICC events till 2027.

Pakistan Delaying Champions Trophy amidst written agreement from BCCI

Pakistan’s hard stance may be coming from tit for tat attitude rather than the security threat of their players while coming to India as they have sent their team nearly 2 times to India for the ICC events since 2012 without raising any security concern.

Jay Shah has already hit a rough terrain in its starting days of ICC Chairmanship and it is interesting to see whether he would be favouring the BCCI’s interests or the ICC interest’s which has Pakistan as one of the main stakeholders. As per reports from Pak media, the dialogues between Jay Shah and Mohsin Naqvi have taken a halt ever since BCCI has agreed to PCB’s demands ‘In principle’ but have categorically denied giving written agreement to PCB for Hybrid model for ICC events till 2027.

There is a strong likelihood that BCCI and the broadcasters may suffer significant revenue loss if they agree to PCB’s demands of hosting India Pakistan matches outside India in the ICC events, especially for the men’s T20 WC which is supposed to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

ICC in its latest Champions Trophy has not shown Pakistan as the host. Many media houses from India opines that such a move could indicate ICC’s willingness to completely shift the Champions Trophy out of Pakistan if the deadlock does not get resolve sooner.

Former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh may have opined that Pakistan too can refuse to come to India on grounds of security, however such a scenario could be challenging for the BCCI as advertisment rates, broadcaster’s logistics movement and gate money will suffer heavily.
