For many families in India, arrange marrage is usually the preferred way to find a life partner for their children. Even when the profiles belong to the top spectrum of social strata, they often have difficulty in zeroing in on the partner. Tushar Gupta, who is the founder of Indian Matrimonial site IITIIM shaadi reveals the preferences of rich Indian men in a recent podcast with Raj Shamani.
Emotional Availability
Tushar opines that high earning Indian men often want a partner who is emotionally available at home, even if she works minimally. For them, coming home to a peaceful, emotionally supportive environment is crucial after a hectic workday.
As per a 2016 study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, emotional responsiveness is one of the key factors of a long-term satisfactory marriage.
But Tushar also opined that rich Indian men may also prefer a partner who is also a high-achiever in her domain as she is more likely to empathsize and understand the hectic demands of her husband’s professional life.
Beauty
Beauty has long been one of the main consideration for Indian men to choose a life partner. As per the founder of IIT IIM Shaadi, wealthy Indian men are highly selective when choosing a life partner, with a strong preference for physical attractiveness. Their mindset, he explains, is rooted in a sense of equivalence—they believe that since they belong to the top 1% financially, they also deserve a partner from the top 1% in beauty.

The revelations by Tushar aligns with the conclusion of many studies where men often rank physical attractiveness as the number one criteria they look for in a woman. The study highlights that beauty is largely perceived as a strong connotation to good health and fertility.
Even if these factors appear shallow preferences, the truth as revealed by the founder is that men, usually the top-tier ones place a strong emphasis on a highly attractive partner.
For the ones who are not aware about IIT IIM Shaadi, it is a matrimonial platform which accepts profiles passed from IITs, IIMs and other prestigious institutes only from India. The platform was founded to bridge a gap in the matrimonial space where men and women can look for partners based on their intellectual wavelength and similar mindsets.
