Dating apps saw a massive adoption especially after the Covid era and now have become the go to choice for most people who are looking for situationships. While it may have changed the dating landscape, the drawbacks have been many; from Swipe Culture to endless options.

But its not everyday that you get to hear opinion from prominent personalities on dating. Recently USA Vice President, JD Vance spoke to Ross Douthat on the podcast of “Interesting Times” and voiced his opinion against the incorporation of AI in Dating apps.

Vance expressed deep concern about AI’s impact on the non-economic fields like dating.

“If you look at basic dating behavior among young people — and I think a lot of this is that the dating apps are probably more destructive than we fully appreciate,” Vance said during the podcast at 55.43 minute timestamp.

“Our young men and women just aren’t dating. And if they are not dating, they are not getting married and starting families.”

The American vice president statement comes at a time when dating apps are struggling to generate revenue. Bumble’s shares have seen dramatic reduction in the last 4 years. The scenario is not so different even for its rival; Tinder.

While traditional dating apps are geared towards connecting people, the objective are not converting into results and as a consequence more and more people aren’t paying for such apps, as per The Guardian.

As it is becoming harder and harder for both genders to go from dating through mainstream to relationships , people have started to use Chatbots to overcome their isolation time.

There are multiple reports which opines that youngsters across America and UK are turning to AI Girlfriends as they are struggling to find real human partner.

Teenagers talking to ChatBots

Vance expressed deep concern on the future of AI in dating apps indicating that many people will feel more engaged with chatbots rather than making an effort to talk to a new person.

“There are millions of American teenagers who are talking to Chatbots, who don’t have thier best interests at heart. Or even if (referring to ChatBots) they do have best interests at their heart, they start to develop relationship, they would expect that compared to a chatbot, a normal human interaction is not going to be a satisfying because human beings have wants and needs.” Vance said during the podcast.

The concern from Vance appears genuine as very recently a survey found that majority of Genzs are willing to marry AI personality believing that it could replace a human connection.

Vance criticism wasn’t directed towards the mainstream dating apps but the ineffencies of those apps are repelling paid users. And the youngsters are seeking solace in AI Chatbots that can also indulge in 18+ chats.
