Mohak’s Family Struggle

His mom is from Alwar and Dad from Nadbhal, Rajasthan.

The story of Mohak’s dad is extremely inspiring. His father wasn’t so much into studies and it was only his uncle which motivated his father to study harder.

After failing multiple times in the CA exam, Mohak’s father opted to get his answer copy rechecked after the 4th failed attempt. To his luck, there were few increments in his marks which cleared his CA exam. After some years working alongside, his father had taken control of his elder brother’s brokerage business. The parents then moved to Delhi. His mother had graduated and got married at the age of 22.

However, the business turned south hill after moving to Delhi. This was during the time of 1992 when Harshit Mehta did a scam. The scam also affected his father’s brokerage business and his parents were contemplating aborting the pregnancy when Mohak was in the womb. This was because the couple already had a child (Mohak’s elder sister).

Upon the insistence of their aunt, his mother went ahead with the pregnancy and Mohak was born. Mohak in his own words, opine that he was the lucky mascot for the family as his father got a great job after the collapsed business and their fortunes changed.

Crediting his fortune revival to education, Mohak’s father always considered the best options for his children’s education. Mohak admitted that he was raised in one of the best schools of Delhi. In fact, Mohak faced no financial constraints in covering his tuition fees at a university in Singapore, as he gave up a scholarship in exchange for a three-year work bond in the country.

Mohak Mangal Education

He was born in Delhi and did his schooling from DPS Rk Puram. He took science with economics in 11th standard. Upon his parents’ suggestion, he started preparing for IIT Jee from Narayana Academy, based in Kalu Sarai. However, after just one month, he realized that he won’t be able to clear it and therefore gave up on the preparation.

Mohak does not shy away from admitting that he comes from a wealthy, privileged family where there was no financial constraint. He credits his parents (who themselves had not come from a rich family) for giving him the best opportunities for study in countries like Singapore where tuition fees are quite expensive. His parents had worked hard in order to save money for his education.

In many of his videos, Mohak shows his humble side of acknowledging the role that money has allowed in achieving great education and success.

After his schooling, he applied for university programs in Economics in various DU colleges and international universities. He then went on to complete his undergraduation from Singapore Management University in Economics.

He opines that he wasn’t very highly interested in the subject of Economics but had a keen liking for Development Economics and eventually made a career in it.

He was advised to gather field experience in Development Economics as the Desk Work could also be done later in the career. Therefore he started his first job with the Poverty Action Lab by Abdul Lateef Jamal and worked in rural areas of Bihar for an agricultural project.

After his first job where he worked for one year, he applied for masters in the Development Economics field and got admitted to Yale University. A friend of a Yale professor recruited him for a job in Myanmar.

He worked in Myanmar for 3 years for IGC and World Bank.

He quit his job in April May of 2020 and shifted to California to do an MBA from Stanford University. He admitted that he got bored of economics related jobs, especially after starting his youtube channel. Luckily for him, even his wife got admission in Stanford alongside him and the duo passed out in December 2023.

Personality

He claims to have been a very introverted and reserved person in his childhood, therefore he used to hate social interactions. He used to be extremely self-conscious, partly because of his pimples also. While studying at Stanford for MBA, he wanted to achieve a shredded look and opined that his physical looks had played a great part on his self-esteem and confidence.

While he may consider himself good-looking, charming and smart now, there was a time when he didn’t like the way he looked. He was obese from 18-22 and used to be hesitant for a night out because he believed that he wasn’t used to being good looking at that time.

GirlFriend and Marriage

He got married to his girlfriend Shaneez Mohinani of Sindhi caste in November 2019. The duo met for the first time in Singapore in 2011 when Mohak was 19 years old. At that time, his wife was working in Singapore and therefore he also applied for a job there in a consultancy company.

Mohak opines that the two have different personalities. While he is reserved, his wife Shahneez likes to talk a lot.

Shaneez is from Indonesia after her grandparents left India in around 1947 – 48 (around partition violence) for Surabaya, Indonesia. Her parents were born in Indonesia and her ancestors are from Hyderabad Sindh.

It’s very uncommon for Sindhi families to get their daughter in law or son-in law get married in other castes. While dating Shaneez, Mohak was aware of this fact. He knew that the chances of their marriage were slim but believed that he was smart and good looking enough that’s why the Shaneez’s parents approved of their marriage.
