In what could be termed as a major differentiator from almost every other similar platforms, a dating app in Japan has introduced an option where user can submit their government data in order to verify whether they are really single.

We are talking about Tapple, a dating app used in Japan with nearly 20 million subscribers. For the ones who are not aware, this dating app is only for the people who are currently single.

As per a survey done by Tapple on over 5000 people, they found that a many of its users are concerned about relationship issues that can crop up in their dating if one of the party is married. An overwhelming 80% of people responded that they want to provide a self-verified status so that the other person exploring their profile has no doubt that they are married.

Matching Quality

It makes common sense that when people are able to see “single” verified status of other people, they are likely to invest more time and energy. It significantly reduces possibility of emotional distress just because of the fact that the other person hid that they are married.

At a time when Japan is witnessing severe decline in its birth rate, this feature aligns with the objective of connecting single and young people so that they could potentially think of marriage and children.

While the new feature of validating single status could increase trust of the public, many other apps are reluctant to introduce this feature, let alone make it mandatory as compulsive verification could repel the users to another app which hasn’t made it mandatory.
