How often you hear about a foreign national coming to India to start a business? Bert Mueller is one of those rarer individuals who decided to turn his food passion into enterpreneurship in a country where he had spent only two years before starting it.

Bert Mueller is 35 years old (as of April 2025). He was born in a middle class American family. He has doubles major in music and public policy. In fact, before his food business, he composed music scores for few films and also worked in a mexican fast food chain.

Bert was always passionate about food. In his childhood years, he used to set up small cafe in his house just to serve food for his parents.

During an AMA session on Grapevine, Bert opinions that he always had positive associations in his brain related to India due to Indian food. His mom and uncle loves Indian food.

People have been searching about his girlfriend or wife on the Internet. Its not confirm whether Bert Mueller is married or not as no such information is available on the Internet till now.

Muller came to India in 2010 to study. One day he visited his Mexican lady friend, who was also in India at that time. He saw that the Jaipur family with whom she was living, used to enjoy her Mexican delicacies. Inspired by that idea, he thought of starting a food business which became real by the name of “California Burrito”. He went to US and eventually came back to start his business. The first store was opened in 2012 in Bengaluru.

Bert states that his start up was bootstrapped (of almost $250,000) by his friends, including childhood friends Dharam Khalsa and Gaelan Conell who also came onboard, and family.

In his recent interview with CNBC, he jokes that “If you find monotomy dull and comfort boring, then India is the perfect place to be. Nothing is predictable and everyday is different.” He is someone who has adapted to India and its eccentricities. He is a fan of Allu Arjun after watching Pushpa 1 and would want to make him the face of California Burrito.
