When Journalists Earn Peanuts: Shubhankar & Sudhir Chaudhary on Revenue of TV Media Industry
Its a coincidence that just a couple of days ago, Shubhankar was in discussion with Sudhir Chaurdhary where the two of them talked about extreme remuneration gap between the media company owners and the journalists.
They pointed out that journalists are often paid extremely less in comparison to the revenue earned and that the majority of hard work to bring in views, TRPs and social media traction are done by the influence of the journalists only as they are the face value of a program of a prime time show.
Shubhankar opinioned that once he started his own Youtube channel, he realized the revenue that comes from views and that he is earning nearly 10 times more than what he was earning from his media job for the same work.
In that same podcast, Sudhir Chaudhary opinioned an interesting point that if he was in charge at India Today, he wouldn’t have allowed Shubhankar to start his own Youtube channel but would have made an attractive compensation deal with him that would have benefitted both parties instead.
