The India’s Got Latent Controversy dampened the popularity of many Youtubers like Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and also of Apoorva Mukhija. Known as the “The Rebel Kid”, it is only recent that Apoorva has started her comeback in content creation. She opened up on the India’s Got Latent controversy and also on many aspects of her life.
In her latest podcast, she speaks about choosing the name Rebel Kid for her YouTube channel and it has to do with her father.
Apoorva revealed in her conversation with Nayandeep Rakshit’s podcast, that the name “Rebel Kid” was never a conscious choice but it certainly reflects a defiance which she had with her father while growing up.
“It was in the way I dressed up, how I spoke…….They would only allow me to go to school and tuition. which is normal but it was a lot in my case…..If I hung out with boys, it was a problem even for doing schoolwork. And my Dad used to be eternally dissappointed with me because I used to get lot of complaints from schools and tuition.” Apoorva on the restrictions that her parents had on her. She recalled an incident when she decided to stop chasing validation from her parents. Apoorva had secured a 10 GPA in her 10th standard and informed her dad about the results. Expecting a warm response from him, she received a cold reply instead “So? What will happen in 11th and 12th?”
“That day I realized that I don’t think it is working out. Me trying to constantly chase his validation is not working out… Now that the numbers have come, even then the father is not happy so I decided let’s do something else. Let’s do something which Father doesn’t like and try going against him.”

From the above remarks it may appear that the Rebel Kid still holds grudges against her father but that is not true. While Apoorva may believe of not receiving the adequate validation while growing up, but in another interview, she expressed immsense gratitude to her father during the Latent controversy as he gave her assurance of standing by her through thick and thin.
On Her Relationships
Apoorva talked about her relationships and opinioned that she had always attracted ‘toxic’ partners subconsciously as she unknowingly gravitated towards them, perhaps because she never saw what a healthy one looked like while growing up. She opinions though that she also wasn’t the saint one either in her relationships and that she tried sleep therapy and other forms of therapy to recover from break up.
“In terms of relationships, I really was toxic and surrounded myself with toxic people.” Apoorva said.
Apoorva went on to opinion that she has now recovered from her scars who would seek validation from others and that she is in “better place” mentally than before. Apoorva these days can be seen in the Web show “The Traitors”
