The Kashmir files was based on real life incidents and beat all odds of becoming mega successful at the box office. While the movie was critically acclaimed by the right wing people of India, the left-wing group criticised and alleged that the makers had shown over exaggerated versions of real genocide incidents.

Many people from the left-wing group also criticized Anupam Kher for being a part of the film, solely to earn a whopping paycheck. They criticized that Anupam Kher was not born in Kashmir and had no familiarity of the trauma that the Kashmiris had gone through. Therefore, they opined that his sole motive to do that film was to sell the sad story and earn a massive profit.

Now the actor has recently revealed that he charged only Rs. 35 lakhs for The Kashmir Files. Anupam was answering in response to the question put by the editor of Tv9 Bharatvasrsh where he was invited to promote his upcoming film “Tanvi”, a movie based on autistic character.

He pointed out that the fee he charged was almost one-fifth of his usual rate, implying that he accepted a significantly lower amount because he genuinely wanted to be part of a real and powerful storyline and tell the world about the trauma that the Kashmiris have faced.

Would have shared profits of Film to Kashmiris if” …. : Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher pointed out that if he were the maker or producer of the film, he would have donated a portion of the profits to the Kashmiri community in some form, implying that he agrees with the criticism directed at the filmmakers for not sharing the film’s earnings with the Kashmiris in any meaningful way.

“I got ₹35 lakhs for the whole film. That was all — that was my fee. I was not part of the profits, and out of those ₹35 lakhs, what I have done for Kashmiri families, that I know. But if I was the producer of the film and had made that much money, I would have certainly done that. I got one-fourth of my usual fee for the whole movie. Today, I earn four to five times that amount. I charge many times more money. But these people have the perception that Anupam Kher has earned a lot of money. I only acted in the whole film.”
